North Caucasian Federal District

NCFD is the most compact and small federal district of RF, but it has high density of population.

It borders on Azerbaidzhan and Georgia; it is connected with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran by the Caspian Sea.

There is a significant economic potential in the fields of tourism, power industry, extraction of minerals and logistics, which is supported by federal projects. Special NCFD development programs are being realized at the district, that suppose modernization of industries, construction of new modern factories and plants, development of service industry (mainly for tourism), modernization and development of education and training of qualified specialists. Large-scale investment projects were started with the support of Russian Federal Government. A lot of them are being realized in Stavropol territory and Caucasian Mineral Waters region (CMW).

Caucasian Mineral Waters region (CMW)

Caucasian Mineral Waters urban agglomeration unites the cities of Kislovodsk, Essentuki, Pyatigorsk, Zheleznovodsk, Lermontov and Mineralnye Vody. Total population of the agglomeration is more than 1 million people. Each year more than 650 thousand tourists visit CMW. Mineral water reserves of CMW exceed the volume of thermal waters in Karlovy Vary.

CMW region has a huge potential as a touristic and recreation attraction: natural and historical monuments, unique variety of medical and recreational resources are located at its territory. Currently, a complex program of the CMW region development has been created and approved; according to this program, touristic and recreational complex is defined as one of the priority fields determining the possibilities of the regional economic growth. Realization of the complex development program would allow CMW become a touristic and recreational attraction at the international level, which would contribute in active attraction of investments.

City of Mineralnye Vody

The regional CMW development prospects directly concern the city of Mineralnye Vody, which has been the «transportation gate» of the region since its foundation. International airport, railway hub and highways in the north-south and west-east (to NCFD republics) directions are located here.
